1. RESIDENT INCOME
Resident income has been increased steadily and living standard has been improved apparently. In 2000, the controllable income of every resident in the urban was 8,706 RMB, which was 14.69 times of 547 RMB in 1984. Shantou Municipal Government has declared “Regulations to protect the lowest living standard of urban residents”.

2. SAVING AND DEPOSIT
With the increase of resident income, the saving and deposit have increased in large scale. At the end of 2000, the balance of saving was 35.14 billion RMB, which was 34.825 billion RMB larger than 315 million RMB in 1984.

3. LIVING CONDITION
According to the statistics, the average living space per person was 2.36 sq/m per person or living no space. The average living space per person was 2.36 sq / m and ranked the third countdown in 324 medium cities in China In 1978. In 2000, the average living space per person was up to 13.2 sq / m. The increasing speed and average living space per person are in the front of the medium cities in China.
